The primary level includes the first five to six years of compulsory education. Children are admitted between the ages of five and seven. At this level, they are taught reading, writing and mathematics, as well as elementary knowledge of other subjects. Primary school attendance is compulsory.

This type excludes:

  • adult education as defined in 855
  • child day-care activities (see 889100)

Codification rules

If primary schools (852...) and secondary secondary schools (853...) activities are undertaken,
primary schools 852... takes priority.
