Higher vocational education covers the tertiary sector. This type of education allows students to acquire both practical skills and in-depth theoretical knowledge and to prepare for managerial functions. This type includes:

  • Colleges of higher vocational education: these courses culminate in a diploma recognised at federal level. They are based on minimum requirements laid down by the Swiss government and on the resultant Federal Office for Professional Education and Technology (OPET) directives governing syllabus structures and recognition procedures.
  • Advanced Federal Certificate and Federal Diploma of Higher Vocational Education and Training: these two qualifications (also known as industrial design/art diplomas) are intended for people with professional experience wishing to broaden their knowledge.
