This type includes the intermediation of passenger transport, by bringing clients and service providers together for a fee or commission, without the intermediary providing the passenger transport services that are intermediated. These intermediation activities can be carried out on digital platforms or through non-digital channels (including face-to-face, door-to-door, telephone, mail, and so on). The fee or commission can be received from either the client or the provider of the passenger transport service. Revenue for the intermediation activities can include other sources of income (for example, revenues from the sale of advertising space).
This type includes:
- operation of online ride-sharing platforms that allow passengers to book a ride
- provision of intermediation services for the purchase of land, water or air transport for passengers
- brokerage of passenger seats in ships and aircraft space
This type also includes:
- intermediation of transportation by radio taxi services, without providing transport
- fee-based reservation services for passenger transportation
This type excludes:
- taxi operation and other passenger road transport, see 493
- rail, ship and aircraft freight brokerage, see 523100
- operation of online platforms for the rental of vehicles (cars, motorcycle, etc.), without a driver, see 775100
- units that provide reservation services alongside additional travel advice or expertise, see 791100
- combined activities of accommodation, travel and food, i.e. travel agencies and tour operators, see 791100, 791200
Services such as warehousing, storage, and other support activities, when provided solely to assist transportation activities within the same unit, are considered ancillary. These services should be classified under transport, with the unit assigned to the relevant code in Section H.
